Open Awards’ popular Skills for Further Learning and Employment (SFLE) qualifications suite has been with us since 2014 and over the last six months, it underwent a long overdue redevelopment. Throughout this post, we’ll be taking a closer look at the key changes and what you can expect following our Validity Panel meeting in December 2021, when the suite was extended until 31/08/2027.

This is the first major review of SFLE and our work has included:
- Developing new Endorsed Pathways at all levels.
- Aligning Level 1 and Level 2 units with other national routes such as Traineeships where appropriate.
We can now…
- Provide model curriculum examples for both endorsed and non-endorsed Pathways at each size and level within the suite.
- Demonstrate how to link to environmental initiatives such as the John Muir Award (Conservation) to the unit content.
- Demonstrate how to integrate numeracy and literacy assessment into vocational unit assessment.
- Provide additional tools to help plan, deliver and assess a course based on the qualifications in the unit lists.
