We were delighted to welcome Maria Eagle MP, Member of Parliament for Liverpool Garston, to our office on the 27th of February as part of Open Awards’ 45th birthday celebrations.
Maria Eagle has long been a supporter of education and skills for local communities. During her visit, she discussed the future of education, including the Skills Bill, the newly announced SEND reforms and how vocational qualifications could transform secondary education.

This year marks two significant milestones for Open Awards. May 2026 celebrates 45 years since the inception of the Open College Network North West Region, and 21 years since we became Open Awards.

Maria’s visit was a wonderful opportunity to reflect on our history, celebrate our impact and look ahead to the future as we continue supporting education providers and learners across the country.
