We just love this time of year as we get to hear all about the learner's amazing Access to HE journeys and achievements. Vicki has just graduated with a First-Class Honours Degree from Southport College and is now off to do her PGCE.
Read her success story here below;
I began my Access to Higher Education course in September 2016. At 41 years old, walking into Southport college as a full-time student, was a huge culture shock.
The course was intense from the very beginning. I studied English, Psychology and Education Studies and learnt how to reference, create lesson plans, academic posters, and presentations. The course was fast-paced, varied, and challenging but with the support from tutors and my cohort, self-doubt lessened. My tutors seamlessly guided me through my UCAS application and personal statement.
I achieved Student of the year for Access, which was a proud moment and much-appreciated accolade for the years hard work. Uni has been an incredible experience. Undoubtedly, it would have been amazing to experience student life as a school leaver but as a mature student, it has been rewarding in other ways.
I have learnt so much, about my subject, perspectives, theories and about myself. I can honestly say that the decision to study an Access course at Southport College, prepared me with a discipline to achieve. I graduated in July 2020, achieving a First-Class Honours degree in English Literature and I am now continuing to study for a PGCE in Further Education.
All at Open Awards would like to congratulate Vicki on her achievement and wish her all the best in her further studies.
