Essential Digital Skills – Assessment writers and reviewers

Job Summary

These posts are being recruited as part of the development of the Essential Digital Skills Qualification. We are looking for individuals to support the development of assessment content for Entry Level 3 and Level 1 qualifications and work within the following timescales:

  1. Sample assessments for each subject and level – end of March 2021
  2. Live assessments for each subject and level – June/July 2021

LOCATION: Remote / home-based (with occasional travel to Speke, Liverpool for training)*

CONTRACT TYPE: Contracted services (self-employed)

SALARY:  Payment will be based on a rate per assessment paper, with accompanying mark scheme. (Reasonable travel and expenses paid in addition to agreed rate)

 

The key functions of the writing/reviewing post include:

  • Produce assessment content (question papers/tasks and mark schemes) that meet Essential Digital Skills criteria and Open Awards qualification and assessment specification requirements
  • Review assessment content (question papers/tasks and mark schemes) to ensure they meet Essential Digital Skills criteria and Open Awards qualification and assessment specification requirements
  • Submit assessment content in the required format, within agreed timescales
  • Provide additional assessment content as required, including document/image sources and details of copyright permission, as required
  • Attend Qualification Paper Evaluation Committees (QPECs) - either in-person at OA Head Office in Speke or remotely via teleconference facilities*
  • Liaise with Assessment Leads, Lead Markers and Open Awards' Development Officers, and amend own content in response to feedback
  • Attend training and standardisation activities as required - either in-person at OA Head Office in Speke or remotely via teleconference facilities*

 

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Experience of writing and/or reviewing assessment papers and mark schemes for ICT Functional Skills or related qualifications
  • Knowledge of Ofqual's General Condition of Recognition, as well as the Essential Digital Skills subject content
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work accurately and consistently, and too tight timescales
  • Ability to utilise IT software applications, including Microsoft Office, email and adobe acrobat reader. Knowledge and use of assessment platforms an advantage
  • In addition, you are required to have access to a PC/laptop with a reliable and secure internet connection, for the purposes of the role.

 

 

 

Essential Digital Skills – Assessment markers

In addition to the above descriptions, we are also recruiting assessment markers for these qualifications, to commence in the post from September 2021.

The key functions of the assessment marker post include: 

  • Marking of Entry Level 3 and Level 1 assessments (which may include a variety of on-screen and paper-based methods of assessment), following approved mark-schemes 
  • Participate in training and standardisation events - either in-person at OA Head Office in Speke or remotely via teleconference facilities*
  • Liaise with our team of markers and Lead Marker to provide feedback on assessments, mark-schemes and learners' performance 
  • Raise concerns with validity or authenticity of assessments 

Required Skills and Experience: 

  • Experience of marking assessments for ICT Functional Skills or related qualifications
  • Knowledge of Ofqual's General Condition of Recognition, as well as the Essential Digital Skills subject content
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to work accurately and consistently, and to tight timescales
