Access to HE Committee Member

A vacancy has arisen on the Open Awards Access to HE Committee. We are looking for an individual with considerable experience of managing, delivering or assessing Access to HE Diplomas and who can demonstrate strategic vision and excellent communication skills.

Chaired by Dr Gordon Laing, Associate Head of Secondary and Further Education, Faculty of Education at Edge Hill University, the Committee benefits from experienced Access to HE practitioners and higher education admissions staff and is administered by Open Awards.

The Access to HE Committee is appointed by and is responsible to the Board of Trustees for the detailed scrutiny of all matters relating to the organisation’s regulatory and standards responsibilities for Access to HE provision including:

  • the procedures and practice of validation, approval and withdrawal of Access to HE Diploma providers and courses
  • the assurance of quality and standards on Access to HE Diplomas
  • the dissemination of the outcomes of all monitoring processes, and their use to enhance Open Awards Access to HE provision
  • the effectiveness of the procedures and consistency of their operation.

The Committee has delegated powers to approve certain processes and recommend to the Board the adoption of policies and reports. The Committee meets termly (currently through video conferencing) and the commitment is 3 half days and 1 full planning day a year. There is no remuneration for this post but reasonable travel expenses will be paid.
