Open Awards Level 3 Extended Certificate in Maritime Studies
First teaching for this qualification is September 2018.
The primary purpose of this qualification is to support you to progress to further learning in the maritime sector. This qualification is designed for learners who have a clear idea of what they want to do after their education and those who have not yet identified a specific career pathway. It is designed to give you a broad foundation of skills and knowledge that could support progression into a range of career opportunities within the maritime sector.
This qualification will require you to commit to approximately 360 hours of learning.
You will be required to complete 2 mandatory units:
- Working in the 21st Century Maritime Sector
- Vessel Review and Passage Planning
You will then have a choice of optional units, including:
- Practical Boat Handling Skills
- Managing a Marine Business
- Vessel Construction and Engineering
- Maritime Business – The Role of Intermediaries
- Maths and Stability at Sea
These units are designed to cover the knowledge and skills required to progress to further learning in the maritime sector, including the application of scientific principles and practical knowledge.
