The Department of Health announced in October it planned to add 1,500 more places each year – an increase of 25% on current student doctor numbers to boost the number of new entrants to the profession. Open Awards and our centres stand ready to support progression into these places through our Access to HE(Higher Education) Diploma courses.
These Level 3 courses are specifically designed for adult learners as an alternative route to A-Levels onto university degree courses and offer options specifically designed for those planning to progress into medicine which are offered by a number of our Further Education College provider partners.
The Diploma is composed of a number of units with a level and credit value. Students must achieve 60 credits in total. 15 of the credits are from ungraded units and 45 are graded and are awarded at Pass, Merit or Distinction. On average it takes around a year to complete, though some courses work on different timescales.
Jobs in medicine make an excellent choice for individuals with a passion for science and people. Our EMSI labour market intelligence highlights the advantages of choosing this sector which has a growing number of jobs and high average wages.
