Functional Skills Standardisation: Entry Level Reading, Writing and Maths

This standardisation session will cover Functional Skills assessments in Reading, Writing and Maths at Entry Level 1, Entry Level 2 and Entry Level 3.

Everyone involved in the marking of Functional Skills assessments at a Provider must attend at least one external standardisation meeting on an annual basis. Failure to attend will result in approval to deliver Entry Level Functional Skills being withdrawn.

The session will include:

• the review of statistics related to paper performance
• exercises to include the marking of example scripts (pass, border line and fail scripts to be included in the sample)
• comparison activities / discussions to include the mark awarded compared to the outcome of the activity

At the end of the session, participants will:

• be able to understand and consistently apply a mark scheme
• know how to mark accurately, reliably and consistently
• know how to deal with anomalies and responses that are difficult to judge
• understand the importance of internal quality assurance
• be able to complete the final marking table and add marks to XAMS
• know how to maintain the security of assessments
