Quality Assurance

In order to comply with government guidelines on social distancing, all quality assurance activities are taking place remotely, not at centre sites.

We encourage all centres to use electronic systems of learner evidence. If you use an online system such as Turnitin or Moodle we will need access to review evidence of marked (and IQAd) learner work. If your centre does not use such online tools, we have developed a SharePoint site for you to upload electronic evidence (please contact your Quality and Standards Advisor for access to this). As a last resort, we will continue to accept hard copies of learner work posted to the Open Awards office. Please note that the external quality assurance of hard copies posted to Open Awards may be subject to a delay while all our staff are working remotely.

Wherever possible, we will be encouraging all centres to use electronic systems of learner evidence. If you use an online system such as Turnitin or Moodle we will need access to review evidence of marked (and IQAd) learner work. If your centre does not use such online tools, we have developed a SharePoint site for you to upload electronic evidence (please contact your LQR for access to this). Failing this, we will continue to accept hard copies of learner work posted to the Open Awards office. Please note that the external quality assurance of hard copies posted to Open Awards may be subject to a delay while all our staff are working remotely.

If you have concerns about the moderation of your learners work, please contact your Lead Quality Reviewer or quality@openawards.org.uk

Guidance for adapting delivery and assessments in 2021-22 can be downloaded from the Secure Portal.

All external quality assurance activities are taking place remotely, not at centre sites. Centres will be expected, wherever possible, to provide electronic evidence either through online system such as Turnitin or Moodle or by uploading evidence to an Open Awards SharePoint site. As a last resort, we will continue to accept hard copies of learner work posted to the Open Awards office. Please note that the external quality assurance of hard copies posted to Open Awards may be subject to a delay while all our staff are working remotely.

Yes. Open Awards will select a sample of learners from the results uploaded for each course run and request evidence both for actual achievements and TAG judgements. All learner evidence must be made available provide electronic evidence either through online systems such as Turnitin or Moodle or by uploading evidence to an Open Awards SharePoint site.

Yes. Actual learner achievement can be signed off by Authorised Internal Verifiers (AIVs) through normal arrangements. In order for AIVs to be able to sign off TAGs, they must attend Open Awards training specifically for the scrutiny of TAG processes. Details can be found on the training and events section of the Open Awards website. AIVs will also receive personal invites to training sessions.

An AIV that does not complete Open Awards AIV TAG training will not be able to sign off TAGs, but can still verify learner achievement from actual assessments.
