Functional Skills Assessment Paper Writers and/or Reviewers

We are recruiting for individuals to be responsible for writing and/or reviewing valid, reliable and fit-for-purpose assessments papers. 

LOCATION: Remote / home based (with occasional travel to Speke, Liverpool for training)

CONTRACT TYPE: Contracted services (self-employed)

SALARY: Various dependent on subject and level (Reasonable travel and expenses paid in addition to agreed rate)

About the Role: 

These posts are being recruited to as part of the development of reformed Functional Skills Qualifications at Entry Level for Maths and English. We are looking for individuals to support the development of assessment content within the following timescales:

1. Sample assessments for each subject and level - End November 2018

2. Live assessments for each subject and level - January 2019 onwards

 

The key functions of the post include: 

  • Produce assessment content (question papers/tasks and mark schemes) that meet functional skills criteria and Open Awards qualification and assessment specification requirements
  • Review assessment content (question papers/tasks and mark schemes) to ensure they meet functional skills criteria and Open Awards qualification and assessment specification requirements
  • Submit assessment content in the required format, within agreed timescales 
  • Provide additional assessment content as required, including document/image sources and details of copyright permission, as required
  • Attend Qualification Paper Evaluation Committees (QPECs) - either in-person at OA Head Office in Speke or remotely via teleconference facilities
  • Liaise with Assessment Leads, Lead Markers and Open Awards' Development Officers, and amend own content in response to feedback
  • Attend training and standardisation activities as required - either in-person at OA Head Office in Speke or remotely via teleconference facilities

Skills and Experience Required: 

  • Experience of writing and/or reviewing assessment papers and mark schemes for Functional Skills or related qualification in English and/or Maths
  • Knowledge of Ofqual's General Condition of Recognition, as well as the Functional Skills reform 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail 
  • Ability to work accurately and consistently, and at time to tight timescales
  • Ability to utilise IT software applications, including Mircrosoft Office, email and adobe acrobat reader

In addition, you are required to have access to a PC/laptop with a reliable and secure internet connection, for the purposes of the role.
