Mandy Dowson, Business Relationship Manager, was invited to attend the County Durham Youth Offending Service Open Day. This was a great opportunity to see the range of opportunities available to young people and see first-hand how Open Awards are contributing to our mission of changing lives through learning.
The morning was well attended with representatives from a variety of service providers including Durham and Cleveland Police and several youth offending services. The agenda included a showcase of services and delivery models and an opportunity to meet with 2 learners who have benefited from accredited learning.
Open Awards were also highlighted as one of the strong partners in this area and one of the case studies focused on our horticulture offer. It was encouraging to see how Open Awards qualifications are being used to provide practical and relevant learning opportunities to young people. One learner had some insight into his Open Awards accredited learning saying it ‘…made me look at the working in a different perspective, everything has a reason’.
The morning was a great success and has provided opportunities for further partnership working on this important agenda. Open Awards has a strong focus on offender learning and work closely with partner education providers to provide innovative and meaningful learning opportunities. We are also delighted that we have recently been asked to provide evidence for the Review of Education in Adult prisons. This event provided an opportunity for Mandy to update partners on new qualifications developed and to share best practice in delivery across offender learning.
