Peter and Pauline from Open Awards visited a group of our Open Awards learners yesterday at the Manchester Christmas Markets.
Stockport Smile Shop is a young enterprise company set up in September 2015. Running the project as part of a Work Skills Education programme, the company is being run by 10 young people with learning difficulties and being supported by Pure Innovations.
The group are working towards an Open Awards Entry Level 3 Certificate in Skills for Further Learning and Employment and running their company over the course of the year.
The group have been responsible for planning their products, buying stock, making and costing products, branding, packaging and selling. They have produced a fantastic range of Christmas decorations, gift tags and tote bags. The group ran their own stall at the Christmas Markets and are continuing to take orders for their products.
'The Enterprise has given everyone insight into how a business operates and the many different roles that we are involved. It is a great way to explore the work of work and to help people identify their strengths. Our Work Skills course is all about improving employability - and we are having a lot of fun along the way!'
-Daniel Martin-Williams; Work Skills Co-ordinator, Pure Innovations
