On Monday 19th March 2018, Open Awards were in attendance to witness the Keith Fletcher Memorial Access to HE Student Prizes 2016-17. Held in the Jubilee Room of Westminster Hall the ceremony awards nominated Access students on their Outstanding Academic Achievement and Outstanding Commitment to Study. After the prizes had been awarded winners, runners up and their guests were treated to a tour of the Houses of Parliament and had the opportunity to have access to the public gallery to watch the debates in the House of Commons in the afternoon.
Open Awards would like to congratulate Winners Joseph Butler and Shelley Jackson and Runners-up Freya Lightfoot and Rachelle Wabissa. Each awardee was thoroughly deserving, their stories truly inspirational and great ambassadors of Access to HE.
Keith Fletcher worked for many years in the South West of England within its successive Access Validating Agencies (AVAs) and was a great supporter of Access to HE. In memory of Keith’s commitment to Access, a number of AVAs agreed to award prizes for Access students drawn from across the regions for 2010-11 and after a successful presentation event in London; it was decided to develop this as an annual presentation. The prize is now supported by all 13 AVAs across England and Wales.
We are encouraging nominations for the prize from all our Access to HE centres. This is a great opportunity for you to get the work of your exceptional students recognised on a national platform.
