The Open Awards Level 3 Access to HE (Higher Education) Diploma is a life changing qualification specifically designed for adult learners as an alternative route to A-Levels onto university degree courses.
Having now processed all Access to HE results, Open Awards would like to extend our congratulations to all learners who have achieved their Access to HE Diploma this year.
Julie Mizon, Open Awards' Head of Quality, has said:
It is wonderful to see success stories, such as Gemma and Maria’s. ‘Changing Lives Through Learning’ is what drives us as Open Awards and we are very proud to see that our Access to HE Diplomas continue to provide opportunities for learners to progress into Higher Education.
We are delighted that one of our HopWood Hall learners, Maria Akhtar, has been featured in an article in The Guardian, sharing her success.
Maria experienced a forced marriage and several years ago suffered a racially motivated attack which has left her with ongoing physical symptoms. She now runs self-defence and fitness classes for Asian women. She will study criminology at the University of Manchester, which she hopes will launch a career supporting and rehabilitating offenders.

Everyone at Open Awards would like to congratulate Maria on her achievement and wish her the best of luck on her Criminology degree at the University of Manchester.
